A patient drive by Connor Clarke and a flying finish from Smoken Ace has landed the gelding a thrilling win at Melton.
In fifth place with 100 metres to go, Smoken Ace charged up the inside line to win the $15,000 Waste Sense Pace.
When the field left the mobile, Clarke dropped Smoken Ace into third spot on the inner, content to save ground and energy.
As the field turned for home, they spread out and Clarke took his chance on the inside, and Smoken Ace stormed home best.
On the Australian tote, Smoken Ace paid $8.40 for the win and $2.60 for the place. In New Zealand, Kyle Marshall Racing supporters earned $7.80 and $1.90 at the TAB.
