Outsider Midnight Pirate breaks through for maiden win at Cranbourne

posted in: News

Midnight Pirate has broken through for his first raceday win, storming home on his Cranbourne home track at odds of $17.

From the number 1 draw, the three-year-old gelding was dropped behind the early leader by driver Chris Alford.

Once the field settled, Midnight Pirate was contained, reserving his energy for a final push as the field turned for home.

In the straight, he dashed up the sprint lane and powered his way to the finish, winning by almost two metres.

On the Australian tote, Wharewhiti paid $17.20 for the win and $2.50 for the place. In New Zealand, Marshall supporters earned $16.90 and $3.60 at the TAB.
