Trainer-driver Kyle Marshall continued his strong run with a commanding win from Son Of Mac in the Renown Silverware Pace at Melton on Saturday night, strengthening the case for a possible trip to Brisbane in the coming weeks.

Sent out a $4 favourite, Son Of Mac settled parked outside leader Ooh Ah Listah before pressing for the front with 1200 metres to go. He finished strongly, covering the last 800 metres in 56.7 seconds to score by five metres from Jaccka Connor and Clymenus.

“He got a bit keen behind the mobile when Carramar Solomona made a move, but he stuck it out and found the line nicely,” Marshall said. “He’s getting fitter and it’s just good to get him back.”

The win came after two unplaced efforts, which Marshall attributed to a stable virus and unlucky racing positions. With the Queensland winter now on the radar, Marshall said, “I’ll talk to the owners, but if we do decide to go, we are ready.”

Earlier, Marshall-prepared Bach, driven by Chris Alford, took out the opening event, showing strong finishing speed in 1:51.7 and suggesting he could be competitive if connections head north for the Queensland Constellations.
