After an injury-interrupted start to 2025, talented trainer-driver Kyle Marshall is back in action and ready to contest Monday’s Downtowner Warragul Pacing Cup with Can Be A Ruebe.

The 31-year-old impressed in the Cranbourne heat last weekend, guiding his smart four-year-old mare to a dominant, hard-held win at his former home track.

“She felt super at Cranbourne—much sharper than her previous run,” Marshall said. “She’s well-conditioned now and has trained on nicely since.”

Drawn in barrier 10, Can Be A Ruebe will face heat winners Dooo Dont Think (6) and Muselet (2). Marshall is content with the draw: “She’s probably best kept out of the early speed battle, and over 2210 metres we’ll have time to make a move if the tempo suits.”

A Warragul Cup victory would be especially meaningful for Marshall, who only recently returned from an ankle injury that sidelined him for months.
“The time off made me realise how much I love driving,” he said. “It’s great to be back, and I’m a lot more settled and confident now.”

Marshall will also line up Ata Rangi, who he describes as “very consistent” and capable of another strong showing.

The Warragul Cup meeting begins at 12.53pm, with the Eddie Evison Memorial Trotters Cup at 2.38pm and the Downtowner Warragul Pacing Cup Final at 3.48pm. Racegoers can also look forward to off-track entertainment, including a $10,000 lucky racegoer giveaway.
