Four-year-old Hugo Maguire has made a successful return to the racetrack with a first-up win at Geelong.

Having his first race since August 2023, Hugo Maguire was driven confidently by Chris Alford, and won the opening event by four metres.

Alford carefully negotiated the early stages of the race, settling his charge into sixth spot, one off the rail.

With 500 metres to go, he gave Hugo Maguire his head and he came four wide at the turn.

He sprinted past the leaders and went to the line well.

The $8,000 race provided Hugo Maguire with his seventh career win from 18 starts, and took his career earnings to almost A$45,000.

On the Australian tote, Hugo Maguire paid $2.50 for the win and $1.80 for the place. In New Zealand, Kyle Marshall Racing supporters earned $2.40 and $1.50 at the TAB.
