Ata Rangi has rewarded his supporters with a maiden win at big odds, powering home to win over a mile at Geelong.
The three-year-old colt settled seventh after the mobile start, one off the rail.
At the halfway point, driver Kyle Marshall took Ata Rangi to the inside lane, preserving his energy and covering less ground.
With 400 metres to go, Marshall urged Ata Rangi forward, stalking the two race favourites as they turned for home.
Ata Rangi came home the strongest of the front group, hitting the line well.
The win came at his fourth career start and the stake increased his career earnings to more than A$5,500.
Ata Rangi’s win was the second of the night for the Kyle Marshall Racing stable after Hugo Maguire’s victory in the opening event.
