Short-priced favourite Son Of Mac gets supporters home at Addington

posted in: News

The well-supported Son of Mac delivered for his supporters with an emphatic win at Addington Raceway.

The two-year-old bay colt, from the Kyle Marshall Racing stables, drew awkwardly on the second row but driver Robbie Close positioned him well early in the race, to take up a one-out, one-back position for the middle stages of the 1980-metre event.

With 450 metres to go, Son Of Mac improved from sixth position to go wide and he took the lead down the straight, winning comfortably by 1 3/4 lengths from outsider Coachella.

His winning stake takes his earnings to more than $32,000 from his six raceday starts.

At the tote, Son of Mac paid $1.40 for the win and $1.20 for the place.
